Leucinosis is an inborn error of metabolism. The body is unable to process certain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine), causing a build-up of substances in the urine and blood. The sweet-smelling urine is one of the characteristic signs. Treatment consists of a low-protein diet and monitoring, but it may be recommended to take medications too. There are five clinical variants, which differs in severity. When diagnosed early, clinical outcomes are generally good.
